True to the Highlander The Novels of Loch Moigh Barbara Longley 9781477817445 Books Reviews

I hadn't read a good time-travel story in quite awhile, and this was a good reminder of why they can be so much fun. "True to the Highlander" was a total delight. From the moment Alethia, a violinist from the 21st Century, meets Malcolm, an earl from the 15th Century, I was hooked. I also was happy to know that three other books in the series awaited me! (And they are all equally good ... in case you wondered!) One of the things I appreciated about this book was that there wasn't a lot of dancing around between the two main characters, the "Does he love me or doesn't he?" schtick. That wasn't the crux of the story as much as the "How do we get through this mess together?" question. It was clear from the git-go that these two had chemistry and that they liked each other and respected each other. I also loved the moments of humor, and there were many. ("Boss-a-me" is a wonderful new addition to the language!) The descriptions of Scotland made me want to visit there, and the brogue captured by many of the 15th Century characters gave the book flavor without being onerous. Overall, I'd say this is real winner -- the start of a wonderful relationship with a great cast of characters, present day and past!
I did not have great expectations for this book. It is my first time reading this author. Well, I am hooked. I am so delighted that this book is one of a series. I am happily ready for the next.

I loved that this was time travel with so many different twists. The H and H are so well developed and wonderful that you fall in love with the both very quickly. Additional characters are just as great. A beautiful love story with just enough lovemaking. You MUST read this book!!!
What a thoroughly delightful and fascinating concept for a plot and one I personally found completely intriguing and entertaining. This particular story of time travel told in a whole new and original version was a well developed, solid effort with great attention to detail. I loved these characters! I loved this story! It has a "Julie Garwood-esque" flavor to it, but better.

She has a feisty strength few women possess. She's highly intelligent with plucky independence. She's survived tragedy and come out the victor. I absolutely adored her. Even though she's "gifted", she steers clear of anything supernatural. Alethia Goodsky can read the energy of people and she can tell when they're truthful or lying - - she's a "truthsayer". She's an exotic beauty with her gorgeously long dark chestnut hair and stormy gray eyes. Alethia is half Anishinaabe Native American and half Scots. She's kind hearted and proud.... generous, talented and genuine....and she's a 21st Century modern woman thrown back into the past...locked in the 15th Century.

Malcolm MacKintosh is a Scots Warrior and heir to Moigh Hall. He's big and blonde with piercing crystal blue eyes. Let me just pause right here and say "rawr"!! He's been groomed his entire life to be the next Laird of Clan MacKintosh and he takes his predestined role very seriously. Malcolm is the typical domineering, arrogant, overbearing, controlling Scotsman arse. But he's also wisely intelligent, honorable and thoughtful with his deep caring for his Clan. He's strong and hilarious...continually dumbfounded and completely baffled with Alethia - - as soon as he thinks he's got her all figured out - - she pulls a 180ΒΊ on him. It's absolutely and deliciously hilarious to "watch" as he's brought to his knees in his confusion.

This story had all the elements of a solid Historical Romance with a bit of comic-relief on the side. Simply hysterical dialogue at times. It was so well thought out and developed and this Author puts so much attention to every detail. Ms. Longley weaves an intriguingly delightful and captivating story using a well played foundation. Strong characters are described perfectly and reinforced throughout the story leaving no doubt and no confusion as to why these beloved characters react (in certain situations) as they do. Never a dull moment here! Dialogue is original, witty and humorously brilliant; flowing succinctly with perfect precision and timing. Brava Ms. Longley. Encore!
